I'm starting a new thread as I can't find a definitive answer to the question on other threads, does anyone know for certain?

Audi want to change the battery haha. So I am going to look at other means, maybe fitting myself. Is the coding really required? There is conflicting information, some people saying yes, and other information stating the car eventually learns a new battery has been fitted.

Can anyone confirm the car will eventually learn the new battery? I know the official line is coding is needed, but is It really? Sent from my GT-I using Tapatalk 2. Crazy price from Audi!!! I've never had a car that you cannot just change it and drive. What needs coding? If the new battery has enough voltage, why cant it just work? I have read something about it needing coding to the battery control module but I couldn't tell you from experience.

Jamie-SNov 18, Just been reading up about this as my dash said about a low battery but the mmi didn't? I guess on some cars you can see the battery level on the mmi?Boschboy Nov 1, Log in or Sign up. This site uses cookies.

Hi, I have a random issue where my car sometimes completely dies on start-up and ignition key gets stuck in ignition barrel. I've noticed that if I slam a door vibrate or jolt the car it comes back to life. I'm sure the battery is fine even though it's the original Varta ah. It puts out Today I have removed the Battery Control Module J and wired the negative battery lead straight to the grounding point on the chassis.

Everything works fine but I'm not sure if this is a bad move? Anybody know much about this? If the problem never arises again at least I will have narrowed the problem down to the J If it does happen again, I will buy a new battery and put the J back in as it must be good.

I have had all the Quiescent current stages faults for years but this problem has been around for years also. J out. BoschboyNov 1, It will not be the BCM module that cause your problem, I would first start with getting rid of the 9 year old battery then if you still have the fault look at replacing the ignition barrel these are a known failure. Over the years I've never heard of a faulty BCM module. B5NUTNov 1, Thank you for your knowledge and I will order a new Varta battery as I have read that there is no option in the VCDS dropdown menu to code a Bosch battery.

As I'm getting the Quiescent current stage errors I think it must be something to do with the battery then but will look into the ignition barrel next if I need to. I found a rusty grounding point under the plastic scuttle at the back of the engine bay as water collects in there and cleaned and greased it but that didn't fix it either.

Thanks again. You can code in any battery, just get the current serial number of the current battery and change a digit. From what I understand the BCM just needs to know when you change the battery. I have a bosch one on my A6 without any issues, and it's coded as a Varta. Batteries may appear to be OK, but the demand on them when cranking the engine may be enough to cause it to fail as you may have some bad cells.

I'll see which is the best price and quality if there are no issues with make. Good info about the Quiescent stages too, cheers. I will try and start turning off the MMI before I switch the engine off in the future. My car does have the Bose amp and speakers. I did update the MMI software to I think, not sure if that was supposed to cure that issue. At At start up very high current draw causes the terminal voltage to drop to a level where the ECU and other modules in the car cannot operate correctly.Remember Me?

Please help. Last Jump to page: Results 1 to 10 of Thread: Audi A8 Energy Management problems?? Thread Tools Show Printable Version. Please help I have a Audi A8 that is giving me some new power problems. I replaced my battery with a new one from Audi dealer everything was fine up until a few weeks ago. The first thing that I noticed was that my car has had a lack of power when starting and taking off. I then started noticing that my alarm wouldn't beep anymore so I decided to look at my MMI screen and look at the status of my Battery.

Boom, I saw that my battery indicator in the MMI was showing one bar from being at zero, I did notice some starting problems as well but didn't think twice about it.

After the car sitting over night and I would start my car it would be close to zero again. I then took the car to Advance Auto and had the Battery, Alternator and starter checked. All came back as good?? Then today I washed my car and then started it put it into the garage for a quick detail then wen't to start the car and nothing.

I tried again and then my key would not come out of the ignition??? I then let it sit with everything off for a few until the key finally came out so I could get into my trunk. I then hooked my battery charger up and let it charge for awhile and the car started. Then I ran an AutoScan and got a huge amount off errors. Below is a full AutoScan of my car.

I have already cleared the codes and reran fine but there has to be a reason for all this if everything is dead overnight. Thanks in advance for all the help. Last edited by BostonSlaya; at PM. Hello, OKWhen the Audi e-tron battery-electric SUV goes on sale next year, its battery cells will drink from a kw charging firehose—a rate quicker than the Jaguar I-Pace or a Tesla Model S.

The high-energy battery pack, detailed by Audi in Berlin on Wednesday, has an apt, caffeinated analogy built right into its sandwich layer of lithium-ion power. Each battery cell comes in a flexible aluminum-polymer envelope the size of a bag of coffee. Thirty-five bolts connect the battery box to the body.

The battery pack measures 5. In all, the pack weighs some kg, or more than 1, pounds. In all, there are 36 battery modules in each pack, each about the size of a shoe box. In each module, Audi nestles 12 pouch-style ah 3. Each of those cells is the size of a bag of coffee. Audi engineers say the pouch-type cells may cool a bit better than prismatic cells, which may package better. Otherwise, in cost and complexity, Audi says the cell types compete well on price, and that it will use both types in the future.

A set of thermal circuits filled with anti-freeze forms a sort of cooling bed frame for the e-tron battery pack. That prevents more damage should the circuit burst in an accident. Thermal adhesive glues the cooling circuit to the battery pack, and a thermally responsive gel cushions the cells inside the pack. The pack draws cooling capacity from the air and from the anti-freeze liquid circuit.

5 Common Symptoms of a Failing Body Control Module (BCM)

Under temperate conditions, the e-tron battery pack modulates temperature with air from intakes and a radiator, all guided by electronically controlled louvers that direct airflow. Under more extreme conditions, a chiller acts as a heat exchanger for the cooling circuit. It maintains battery temperatures of 77 to 95 degrees so the battery can be fast-charged repeatedly and quickly at a higher rate.

Audi measures charging success in terms of range, charging time, infrastructure, and price. Some 85 percent of electric-car drivers charge at home. The e-tron will have volt charge cord for basic home outlet service. Smart charging home systems will be offered in kw and kw configuration. The lower-capacity charger can top off the e-tron battery in about 8. It comes with a lockable connection and can be configured with a PIN, helpful if the system is in use in a multi-family dwelling, for example.

This volt charging system will be joined at some point in the future by volt systems that can charge at kw. That system could bow on the production version of the Porsche Mission-E. A kw charger would be able to charge the e-tron pack in about 12 minutes, which Audi compares to a gas-car fill-up time of about 7 minutes. Charging, by the way, is ambidextrous on some e-trons. A standard left-side CCS port can be joined by a right-side, AC-only charge port, on cars equipped with the kw home charging setup and its two on-board chargers.

In all cases, the charge procedure offers a bit of pizazz. Press a button and the charge flap on either right front fender motors down. A set of pulsing lights indicates charging status until it goes solid green at full charge.View Cart Checkout.

It streamlines the manufacturing and troubleshooting aspects of electronic modules by housing the modules into one, central unit instead of each function having its own device. It also coordinates the operating functions of many non-engine related ancillary items as well as security features. In certain instances, these items may not operate at all.

A malfunctioning BCM will activate dashboard instrumentation cluster error and warning lights. These lights may flash off and on if the BCM is not able to read the sensors correctly.

Your vehicle performance may also be affected as the BCM communicates with other control modules in the vehicle. Parasitic drain is due to components in your vehicle continuing to run after the key is turned off. Some parasitic drain is normal — your battery delivers enough energy to keep things like your clock, your radio presets and your security alarm operational.

Sometimes, parasitic drain exceeds what is normal, and can cause car battery drain. In many cases, your BCM will alert you to issues with symptoms, warning lights or both. The key is to heed these warning signs, take prompt action and seek help. Avoiding these warning signs or delaying taking action could cause further vehicle damage, or even a system-wide failure. BCM problems can also mask issues with other modules in your vehicle. In the event your BCM is beyond repair, we maintain an extensive inventory of new and remanufactured control modules to get you up and running quickly.

My car is an audi a3 1. I had a problem of the clutch I bought new clutch and replaced by group gearbox center which they only aligned the clutch for me and I put the gearbox by myself in the car everything is done perfectly I even filled the perfect oil which there is 2 types of oil and measured 1. After everything the car is not taking any gears.

I took it to the place I brought the tcm and told them the faults and they have now "coded it" Now the audi company I brought the new tcm off has told me that the new tcm I brought to fix my audi tiptronic won't show the gear numbers no more and D is acceptable for being tiptronic. Also the car runs even worse in tiptronic. Since putting this new tcm in I have had more problems and feeling like I got ripped off.
